Japan and Philippines increasingly nervous about Chinese naval harassment

A Chinese navy helicopter buzzed a Japanese destroyer over the weekend prompting a vigorous Tokyo protest; the Philippines military chief of staff ordered new defense spending on ships, aircraft and radars to counter Chinese aggressiveness in the South China Sea.  The AFP (ARmed Forces of the Philippines) will rebuild a overgrown runway on one of its coral islands in the South China Sea Spratly Island group.  We'll see how China responds -- more the the point - how the U.S. responds.   http://mdn.mainichi.jp/mdnnews/news/20110329p2g00m0dm002000c.html; http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2011/03/28/world/asia/AP-AS-Philippines-...
